Yes – the caves are a labyrinth of tunnels and you could be lost without a trained guide.

BOOKING IS PREFERRED – Please Book by ringing 01297 680 282. If you just turn up the tour may be full, please ring if unsure.

Yes, the car park is free for the duration of your visit, but is locked at whatever time the last tour leaves.

The first tour always starts at 10:30. During busy times the tours are every hour i.e. 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30. When it is quieter the tours start at 10:30, 12:30 and 14:30. Tours at other times available by prior arrangement.

Each tour lasts from one hour to an hour and a quarter.

Yes – Parties of twenty or more paying visitors receive 10% discount off the admission price providing this is made in one payment either by cash or cheque.
We reserve the right to combine some booked parties with other visitors to make up the number.

The height varies from 13 to 20 feet. Definitely no crawling required!

It is quite cool with the temperature varying from 7 to 9 degrees Centigrade. Warm clothing and sensible footwear are recommended even in summer.

During the Covid-19 pandemic tours will be restricted according to Government guidelines and pre-booking is preferred. 

This depends entirely on the child. Most find it fascinating but very young children may find it unsuitable.

The temperature below ground varies from 7 to 9 degrees Centigrade and feels cool in summer. We suggest  a warm top and sensible shoes.

Pushchair’s are fine and very young children will be warmer and safer in a pushchair.
Regrettably the steep approach path to the entrance makes it difficult for wheelchairs, but please ring to discuss your needs.

The caves themselves are quite flat with only occasional non steep slopes. The approach path from the Car Park to the caves is steep.

No – Food or drink is not allowed below ground so as to discourage wildlife from entering.

Yes – well behaved dogs are welcome to go on the tours on a lead, but please be aware there may be a brief loud sound demonstration during the tour. Ask your guide to let you know when this will happen.

There is sufficient light to enable safe walking and all guides are equipped with high power torches to highlight points of interest.
Lighting is kept to a minimum to avoid fading old signatures and prevent growth of moss.

Yes, but remember the light is low and no tripods please.

No. This is to reduce the temptation to wander off unaccompanied. Your guide will be equipped with a torch.

No – But there are toilets in the car park so please go before your tour.

No – But there are frequent stops to explain points of interest.
Remember you will be on your feet for an hour, so if you have any difficulty walking or standing  please  tell us when you buy your ticket.

We use a tally system to count everyone in and out so have never lost anyone accidentally!

That depends on when you come. A few Bats are usually visible during April and early May, then again late October time. They are perfectly harmless and well worth looking out for. During the Summer months there are usually no bats in the caves.

Only if you believe in ghosts!  Many  people believe the caves  are haunted. Both visitors and staff have sometimes witnessed or heard things they cannot explain.
